Creating glittery papier mâché eggs is a delightful Easter craft toddlers can help design and personalise.
This activity combines creativity with sensory play, resulting in enchanting decorations for the holiday.

Materials Needed
- Balloons (preferably water balloons for an egg-like shape)
- Newspaper or tissue paper torn into strips
- White glue (PVA glue)
- Water
- Paintbrushes
- Scissors
- Acrylic paint in desired colours
- Glitter
- Optional: treats or small toys for filling
Step 1: Prepare the Paste
- Mix equal parts white glue and water in a bowl to create a smooth, spreadable paste.
Step 2: Inflate the Balloons
- Inflate the balloons to your desired egg size and tie them securely.
Step 3: Apply the Papier Mâché Layers
- Dip a strip of newspaper or tissue paper into the glue mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Place the strip onto the balloon, smoothing it down gently.
- Continue applying strips, overlapping them slightly, until the entire balloon is covered.
- Apply 2-4 layers, allowing each layer to dry completely before adding the next.
Step 4: Pop and Remove the Balloon
- Once the final layer is thoroughly dry, carefully pop the balloon with a pin.
- Remove the deflated balloon through any opening left in the papier mâché shell.
Step 5: Decorate the Egg
- Paint the exterior of the papier mâché egg with acrylic paint in your chosen colours.
- While the paint is still wet, sprinkle glitter over the surface to add sparkle.
Optional: Fill the Egg
- If desired, cut a small opening in the egg and fill it with treats or small toys.
- Seal the opening with additional papier mâché strips and allow it to dry before painting and decorating.
