Creating a rainbow with colourful cereal is a fun and hands-on craft for toddlers.
This simple project encourages colour sorting, fine motor skills, and creativity while making a festive St. Patrick’s Day decoration.

Materials Needed
- Paper plate
- Blue crayon, marker, or paint
- Fruit-flavoured cereal in rainbow colours
- Glue
- Mini marshmallows (optional)
- White paint and blue paper (optional for palm print clouds)
Step 1: Cut and Colour the Paper Plate
Cut a paper plate in half. Colour the bottom portion, representing the sky, with a blue crayon, marker, or paint. If using paint, let it dry.
Step 2: Sort the Cereal by Colour
Separate the cereal into individual colour groups. This step helps toddlers practice sorting and prepares them to place the cereal correctly.
Step 3: Glue the Cereal in a Rainbow Shape
Starting with red, glue cereal pieces along the curved edge of the plate. Follow the classic rainbow order—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Allow the glue to dry.
Step 4: Add Clouds for Decoration
Glue mini marshmallows at both ends of the rainbow for fluffy clouds. For added texture, create palm print clouds by dipping your hands in white paint and stamping them onto blue paper. Cut them out and attach them to the plate.
Step 5: Display the Rainbow Art
Once dry, hang the craft on a wall, place it on a shelf, or decorate it as a table. This cheerful rainbow makes a great learning tool for discussing colours, sorting, and counting.
