Making a leprechaun mask is fun and festive for toddlers to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
This craft encourages creativity, fine motor skills, and imaginative play while letting little ones dress up as a friendly leprechaun.

Materials Needed
- Paper plate
- Green, yellow, and black construction paper
- Orange tissue paper or paint
- Scissors
- Glue
- Paintbrush (optional)
- Hole punch and an elastic band (or craft stick for holding the mask)
Step 1: Cut Out the Face Hole
Cut a large oval in the centre of the paper plate to create a space for the face. Ensure the hole is big enough for the child to see through comfortably.
Step 2: Paint or Decorate the Plate
Let toddlers paint the outer part of the plate orange to represent the leprechaun’s beard. Alternatively, crumple orange tissue paper and glue it around the edges for a textured effect.
Step 3: Make the Leprechaun Hat
Cut a large rectangle from green construction paper for the hat. Cut a black strip for the band and a yellow square for the buckle. Glue them together and attach the hat to the top of the paper plate.
Step 4: Add the Beard and Details
If using handprints, dip the child’s hands in orange paint and stamp them along the bottom edge of the mask to create a fluffy beard. For fun details, add extra decorations like shamrocks or glitter.
Step 5: Attach the Elastic Band or Stick
Punch holes on either side of the plate and tie an elastic band to secure the mask. If preferred, glue a craft stick to the bottom so toddlers can hold the mask instead of wearing it.
Step 6: Enjoy the Imaginative Play
Once the mask is dry, let toddlers wear their leprechaun masks for storytelling, dress-up, or festive St. Patrick’s Day games.
