Rainbow Fruit Loop Necklaces For St. Patrick’s Day

Making rainbow necklaces with Fruit Loops is a fun and engaging St. Patrick’s Day craft for toddlers.

This activity helps develop fine motor skills, colour recognition, and early pattern-making while keeping little hands busy.

Materials Needed

Step 1: Cut and Secure the String

Cut a piece of string long enough to fit over the child’s head with extra room for tying. Tape one end of the string to a table to prevent the Fruit Loops from sliding off while threading.

Step 2: Sort the Fruit Loops by Colour

Encourage toddlers to separate the cereal into colour groups before threading. Label sorting cups with colour names to introduce early letter recognition.

Step 3: Thread the Fruit Loops

Let toddlers string the cereal onto the yarn. To boost cognitive skills, create simple patterns like ABAB (red, orange, red, orange) or AABBCC (two of each colour).

Step 4: Add Decorative Elements

For variety, add mini marshmallows as “clouds” between colour sections. Shamrock decorations can also be tied onto the necklace for a festive touch.

Step 5: Tie and Display

Once threading is complete, tie the ends of the string together to secure the necklace. For a keepsake, glue finished necklaces onto blue cardstock to display the rainbow design upright.
